His second album (1999) Gary James is a singer songwriter who has developed a fine entertaining contemporary style. His songs take you on a journey through life reflecting everyday situations and emotions which are immediately recognisable. He has drawn his inspiration from a wide variety of musical sources and incorporated these into his own very personal style. Passion for the guitar began at a very early age and by the time he was 17 he was already touring with Nothing Yet a well-known rock band in the West Midlands. At 21 he started work as a teacher and co-wrote a number of rock musicals for children, continuing to work in a series of bands ranging from rock and blues to dance and MOR. He even provided acoustic entertainment with a travelling theatre group! Eventually his teaching took him to Somerset and he decided to concentrate on his writing and performing. In April 1997 he released his first album The Gathering, (Simple Songs with Hidden Meanings) produced by Mike Trim (Fairport Convention - Ralph McTell - Show of Hands etc). The album was well received and received a great review from National Guitarist Magazine. Since then he has featured on a number of radio and television shows , including ITV West Country and cable TV in the Midlands. He also appeared on the BBC Century Speaks series as part of the National Oral Archive. Recently he has appeared in concert at festivals around Britain and for a 'live' broadcast in Boston USA. He played a number of venues around London including a headline spot for the Acoustic Revolution as part of National Acoustic Week. In 1999 Gary James released his second album Love Heals which has sold well. Work is currently underway for his third A Time to Be which will be the strongest body of work yet. All the songs on the three albums are completely original material, written under his pen name Gary Stokes
