The WirrOrleans Jazz Band - Live at Keswick

The WirrOrleans Jazz Band - Live at Keswick
CD / Product Number: PKCD373

Formed back in 1978 this accomplished band is now well known far beyond its original home territory of the Wirral/Merseyside area. A combination of fine musicianship and a wide-ranging repertoire - Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Sydney Bechet to Duke Ellington - make them a popular choice for jazz clubs and festivals. This CD was recorded at the 2012 Keswick Festival. The band line-up is a happy combination of experience and youth, their most recent recruit being the dazzling 27 year old trumpet player Phil Lucas. The other band members are - Dave Dixson clarinet soprano sax Andrew MacKenzie trombone Mike McLachlan piano Bert Schroeder banjo Derek Vaux double bass and John Blackman drums. Bert Schroeder was seriously delayed in getting to the session by a car electrical fault on a remote road miles from anywhere. By a stroke of great good fortune there was a banjo player in the audience and so Wilson Hepplestone sat in for the first of the three sets. He appears on four tracks on the CD.
