KEN COLYER TRUST NEW ORLEANS JAZZ BAND - A Tribute to the Crane River Jazz Band
By the time of the 1972 Crane River Jazz Band reunion tour each of the original musicians had charted his own music course. Thus the '72 band had a sound of its own, very distinct, very different from the uniqueness of the original Cranes. This CD is a tribute to the sound of the original Cranes by the only band in England who can pull it off! The personnel of the KC Trust Band was selected by leader NORMAN THATCHER in 1993. It is a strong line-up, slightly modified for this session as Brian Carrick was unavailable and was replaced by Norman Field.
The concept of this album is to pay tribute to the Original Cranes who genuinely blazed a new trail as pioneers of European jazz. The tune selection contains many of their repertoire, but is not limited to it.
The personnel here are SONNY MORRIS, trumpet NORMAN THATCHER, trumpet and leader, NORMAN FIELD, clarinet, DAVE VICKERS, trombone, HUGH CROZIER, piano, MALCOLM HURRELL, banjo, TERRY KNIGHT, bass and MALC MURPHY, drums.
