The Lez Bull Jazz Band - Hustlin' and Bustlin'
Remarkably this is the band's first CD. It was recorded live at Carlisle Jazz Club in August 2010. Formed five years ago by Lez Bull, after an enforced two year lay-off, the band plays their distinctive style of Traditional Jazz in the North-west of the country. I think it's time they ventured further afield there's a huge audience out there waiting to enjoy their music. Not surprisingly, given the line-up - Lez Bull trumpet Dave Lee clarinet, soprano and alto saxes Mathew Woodhouse trombone Pete Major keyboard Laurence Canty bass guitar Peter Boocock drums - their repertoire includes some 'mainstream-ish' tunes as well as traditional favourites, and, with Lez's love of the music of Alex Welsh, some tunes associated with the Welsh bands of the 1960s and '70s too. With that thought in mind I think those of you who have enjoyed CDs by Richard Leach's 7 Stars of Jazz or the Hugh Rainey Jazz Band will enjoy this CD by the Lez Bull band.
